Sigma Alpha is a professional sorority that focuses on women in agriculture. Sigma Alpha even stands for Sisters in Agriculture! We promote scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship among all the sisters.
Rush Basics:
Rush is held once each semester, within the first month of school. This upcoming rush session will go on for one week and include an information session where we'll talk about Sigma Alpha and what our chapter does. There are also at least two nights of games or activities. The past two rush sessions have had a movie night at one sisters house. The final night of rush is an "interview" night that allows the sisters to get to know you better.
Requirements to get a bid:
In order to get into Sigma Alpha there are a few requirements. You need to be a student at Clemson University, have an interest in agriculture, have at least a 2.25 GPA, and be a member in one other organization (or take at least 15 credit hours). You cannot be a member of a social sorority and Sigma Alpha.
What happens after rush:
If you get a bid, you're initiated into the Membership Candidate Education program. It runs for five weeks and lets you know more about the Sorority. There are some requirements of the MC class as a whole. Each girl must interview all the active sisters and our Advisor, Dr. Hall, and get everybody to sign her paddle. As a group, the MCs will do a philanthropy project, create a T-shirt, and make a Sigma Alpha song for Activation night.
